But there’s a big difference between success and fulfillment. The system that society has put in place will drive you toward success at any cost and yet it’s entirely possible to do well at work and still feel unfulfilled. “Great,” you might end up thinking. “Now that I’m successful, why do I feel so empty?” Could it be that you have entered the “Achievement versus Fulfillment Zone?”
It’s your job to make sure that you’re fulfilled in your life. In order to do this, it’s critical to be articulate about your own values. Get off the merry-go-round of life for a minute, and take a look at what matters most to you.
Find that place where are your deepest hopes and dreams reside. Ask yourself – why am I here – what is purpose – what does it look like – how does it make me feel when I reach it?
Without a deep sense of purpose about what you really want and why you want it, you run the risk of becoming another person trapped in the “Achievement versus Fulfillment Zone.” You have a lot of things yet you are empty – can you picture what I am saying in your mind. Can you see what people are doing to fill the void – not a pretty site is it?
